The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas has hosted major wrestling events since the 1990s, including WCW’s Halloween Havoc from 1996 to 2000. In 2019, it was the site of AEW’s first pay-per-view, Double or Nothing, which sold out in four minutes. The arena was set to host AEW’s second Double or Nothing in 2020, but it was moved due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, WWE held its Money in the Bank pay-per-view at the arena for the first time after originally scheduling it for the larger Allegiant Stadium.
The MGM Grand Garden Arena has hosted many major boxing matches over the years, including famous bouts like Holyfield vs. Tyson II, De La Hoya vs. Mayweather, and Mayweather vs. Pacquiao. Infamously, rapper Tupac Shakur was shot in 1996 after attending the Tyson vs. Seldon fight at the arena. The venue was also a longtime site for UFC events, hosting 42 pay-per-views from UFC 34 in 2001 to The Ultimate Fighter Finale in 2016. It remains one of boxing and MMA’s most iconic venues.
In 1994, the Las Vegas Dustdevils brought pro indoor soccer to the MGM Grand Garden Arena for one exciting season. Though short-lived, the “Devils” electrified fans with their fast-paced matches. For years, the arena also hosted thrilling NHL preseason games between Western Conference rivals, including the wildly popular “Frozen Fury” series between the LA Kings and the Avalanche, Coyotes, and Sharks. In 2014, the Lakers and Kings tipped off an NBA preseason matchup, giving Las Vegas basketball fans a taste of what an NBA franchise could offer the city. Though just exhibition games, these events brought top-tier pro sports excitement to the Garden Arena.
